Methamphetamine Abuse in the Workplace
Are You Seeing the Signs?
June 14, 2006
By Patricia A Kotze
Attend the Human Resource Roundtable at the Vernon Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 and learn about how methamphetamine is the leading drug of abuse in this country.
Our speaker, Patricia A. Kotze, is a Managing Partner of Diversified Risk Management, Inc. (DRM). She will share how methamphetamine is not only physically devastating, but has given rise to potential workers accidents on the job--not to mention the increasing prison population this horrific drug has given more life to.
This is not just a casual recreational problem like marijuana use or a club drug. Methamphetamine was actually created around 1919 to give to WW II Japanese and German tank drivers to keep them awake and alert. This is a fast growing problem currently festering in our communities and in our places of employment that can not continue to go on as it already has touched the lives of our next generation.
In more than 20 years of investigations in hundreds of workplaces all over America, Ms. Kotze has observed and solved cases involving this widespread problem.
You will learn how to detect and prevent the use of methamphetamine in the workplace. Learn ways to protect your business, your property, and guard against violent crimes. In addition, you will also learn about the available Employer/Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and 800 incident reporting services.
Dont become a statistic, be proactive and keep your workplace safe and profitable - Patricia A. Kotze

For the first time in more than 20 years, the incumbent Vernon City Council members are facing opposition. In January of this year, a small group of people attempted to take up residency in a commercial building zoned for industry. Within days, three men from this group filed paperwork to run for City Council. The election took place April 11, and a Superior Court judge has allowed the ballots to remain sealed until their validity is determined in a ruling next week.
The Chamber of Commerce is devoted to maintaining the city's industrial nature, which was designed and incorporated more than 100 years ago to meet the demands of a thriving manufacturing business community that provides employment and economic vitality to the Southern California region.
