FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 19, 2009
(February 19, 2009) Downey, CA - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) joined small business leaders who are members of five area chambers to update them on what Congress is doing to help small businesses and bolster the local economy. Held at the Embassy Suites hotel in Downey, the crowded multi-chamber mixer was hosted by the chambers in Downey, Vernon, Santa Fe Springs, Paramount, and the Commerce Industrial Council.
As the congresswoman talked with the chamber members about their businesses, she also explained that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which she supported, includes important measures to help struggling small businesses. The legislation contains a package of loan fee reductions, higher guarantees, new Small Business Administration programs, secondary market incentives, and enhancements to current Small Business Administration programs that will help unlock credit markets and begin economic recovery for the nation’s small business sector.
The bill also provides $730 million to the Small Business Administration and makes changes to the agency’s lending and investment programs so that they can reach more small businesses that need help. More information about this effort is available on the U.S. Small Business Administration’s web site at http://www.sba.gov/recovery.
