It is being reported that hackers have broken into the website AshleyMadison.com, a dating website for married people looking for affairs and released the personal details of over 1 million members of the website.
After the data breach, hackers threatened to release details on the 37 million members of the website. The data breach occurred in July 2015. Data that was stolen includes personal identifying information and credit card information.
AshleyMadison.com and EstablishedMen.com are websites that cater to older adults looking for sex or romance. So far, the owners of both websites, Avid Life Media, has not confirmed that the data released by hackers actually belongs to its customers.
The hackers have claimed their goal is that both of these website are taken down. Until their demands are met, they have threatened to publish customer names, nude photos, and sexual fantasies posted by customers on the two websites. The FBI, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and local law enforcement are investigating the data breach.
