Hacker Starts Car Remotely

General Motors vehicles have used the OnStar system to allow vehicle owners to remotely unlock a locked vehicle or start their vehicle.  Now a talented hacker has posted a video on youtube.com in which he is able to take over a vehicle that uses OnStar and can remotely start the vehicle and unlock it, making theft very simple.

Samy Kamkar, a security researcher made the discovery and has contacted GM to help them figure out how to patch their software and protect their customers.

OnStar is a subscription-based service and is very popular in the U.S., and over three million Americans have downloaded OnStar’s Remotelink application, which was exploited by Kamkar in his research in trying to hack OnStar.
